The CPAGold risk management hotline

When you call the CPAGoldTM risk management hotline at (866) 668 7475 the person responding to your inquiry will be Ralph G. Picardi, Esq.

Ralph is a partner in the law firm of Lapping & Picardi, LLP and has fielded questions from CPAGoldTM members since 1998.

Ralph is a member of the Massachusetts and District of Columbia bars.  He is also admitted to the United State District Courts for Massachusetts and the District of Columbia, the United States Tax Court, and the United States Courts of Appeal for the First, D.C. and Ninth Circuits.

Before practicing law, Ralph practiced as a Certified Public Accountant for Ernst & Whinney in Boston.  He is currently a member of the AICPA and the Massachusetts Society of CPAs.

In his legal practice, Ralph concentrates almost exclusively on servicing accounting and tax professionals and their professional liability insurers on liability and risk management issues.

As the point person on the CPAGoldTM risk management hotline Ralph assists members with a variety of risk avoidance situations.  Members most frequently ask how long to retain work papers after the engagement is completed; when, if ever, to sue a client to collect a delinquent fee; how to terminate a difficult engagement and minimize the risk of a claim; how to improve engagement letters; how to comply with new legislation and rulemaking; how to avoid conflicts of interest in client representations; and, how to respond to subpoenas and other requests by third parties for work papers and client documents.

Additionally, when CPAGoldTM members have issues that go beyond the limits of the hotline, they may retain Ralph to present a full or half-day seminar on accounting risk management for CPE credit, to review their library of engagement letter templates, or to provide more extensive risk management consulting (the risk management “audit”).  The risk management audit results in a detailed report focused on the structure of the member’s firm and its policies and procedures as to documentation, education, communication, staffing, reviewing, internal inspection, engagement-risk assessment, client relations, billing/collection, and accountability.

Through his articles and direct consultations, Ralph is also a resource to the CPAGoldTM program and its partner-producers on a wide range of issues bearing on accountant liability and risk management, and represents member firms in responding to subpoenas and claims.

Ralph DOES NOT administer claims or accept notification on behalf of any insurance company.

Call Ralph if you have a hotline matter to discuss.  The call is confidential and free of charge.
